Leo Austian was my mother's youngest brother. He was married to Avis Lee Neighbours Austian who happened to be my Dad's first cousin. Avis was the daughter of my Dad's uncle Ludy Neighbours.

My first cousins Judy Skeen and Colleen Rieth

Colleen is the daughter of my Uncle Bill Kimbley and my Aunt Violet Austian Kimbley (my Mom's younger sister).

Judy Skeen (Virginia Lee Austian) is the Daughter of my Uncle Leo Austian (my mom's younger brother) and Avis Lee Neighbours Austian (my Dad's first cousin).

On the back of the photograph it says:

"Nancy Stricklin
Mother of
Ellen Stricklin
Neighbours
(Dad's Grandmother)"

I am guessing that the "Dad" in question is Ludy Leake Neighbours

and that the person who wrote on the back was Ludy's daughter Avis Lee Neighbours.

The original photo is owned by Judy Skeen (born Virginia Lee Austian). Thanks Judy!!

Judy is the daughter of Avis lee  Neighbours Austian and Leo Manning Austian.

Below is a page from the "U.S. Record related to enrollment of Eastern Cherokee by Guion Miller, 1908-1910 for Nancy C. Strickland." Apparently Nancy applied for membership in the Cherokee tribe. As you can see, her claim was rejected. I don't know what the qualifications for membership were or what proof Nancy may have submitted in her application. Apparently it wasn't enough proof. Does that mean she (we) have to Cherokee ancestry? Or does it mean the proof she submitted was insufficient? She must have thought she might qualify or she wouldn't have applied.
